Mauritania Passes Green Hydrogen Investment Code

Laying the Legal Groundwork for a Clean Energy Boom

In a landmark policy move, Mauritania’s Parliament passed the country’s first Green Hydrogen Investment Code in early 2025. The law sets out clean incentives and regulatory frameworks to support large-scale hydrogen projects fueled by the country’s rich solar and wind resources.

Global Interest Already Rising

Mauritania is partnering with global firms including CWP Global and Chariot Energy to develop multi-billion-dollar hydrogen production projects. These ventures are expected to position the country as a future supplier of green ammonia and hydrogen to Europe.

A Blueprint for Energy Transition in West Africa

As one of the sunniest and windiest countries in Africa, Mauritania could generate over 30 GW of renewable power, enough to support long-term hydrogen exports.
The legal framework also places Mauritania among the few African nations proactively structuring their green economy sectors.

Africa’s Next Renewable Giant?

With clear laws, bold vision, and growing international support, Mauritania is emerging as a key player in Africa’s green energy future and a model for sustainable development in the Sahel.
