Lionel Messi scored a crucial equalizer in the 83rd minute to help Argentina secure a stunning 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt in the Round of 16.
Egypt struck when Yasser Ibrahim headed home and looked to be on course for a famous victory when Mostafa Ziko doubled their advantage in the second half.
But Argentina then scored three goals to somehow snatch the win, with Messi’s his eighth of the tournament to move him clear in the Golden Boot standings, after he earlier saw a penalty saved.
With this achievement, Argentina advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals, and Messi extended his all-time World Cup scoring record to 21 career goals.
